How to search by telephone number

Is there any way to effectively search contacts by telephone number? My problem is, that there is no clearly defined format which is used for telephone numbers here. So a phone number like 0123456789 might be saved as (0123) 456789, 0123 - 456789, 0123/4567-89, 0123/45 67 89 and I can easily make up another dozen. When using Outlook's Advanced Search feature I will only find contacts if the notation matches exactly.

What I'd really like to do is search a contact folder programmatically when an incoming call is signalled. But currently I doubt that the AdvancedSearch method will ever return any matches.

Do you have any idea how a can address this problem?
