how do i insert an MP3 onto powerpoint?

how do i insert and successfully play an MP3 during my powerpoint presentation? i have the Microsoft Office Proffesional Edition 2003. i installed the microsoft office stufent and teacher edition which contained word, outlook, powerpoint, excell and publisher. it did not install and does not play custom sound effects so im not sure if it will play MP3's. i tried going insert -> movies and sounds -> sounds from file but it just did not play.
