Windows mail, multiple users

Hi,
I have reconfigured my email account. I can only receive only if any new mails arrive. I cannot download all old emails. Also if my partner downloads any new emails that arrive (we both use a common id)... They wont come to my inbox (though we leave a copy on the server). I have tried all options but in vain... Any help is appreciated.
